Work Visas and Immigration in Uzbekistan
Visas for foreign nationals
In Uzbekistan, hiring foreigners without valid work permits can result in fines, legal action, or visa cancellation. Strict monitoring is undertaken by the government to ensure jobs are first available to Uzbek citizens unless specialized skills are required. Therefore, the country has limited skilled migration programs for foreigners, but there are provisions for highly skilled professionals in sectors like IT, engineering, and healthcare. These visas are available for foreign workers in Uzbekistan:
- Employment permit: Allows a foreign national to work for a specific employer or company in Uzbekistan.
- Entrepreneurial permit: Allows a foreign national to engage in independent business activities in Uzbekistan, such as starting a business or providing services as a freelancer.
Foreigners may also apply for a short-term business visa, which is issued for short-term business visits, attending meetings, or exploring business opportunities in Uzbekistan. It does not permit full-time employment in an Uzbek company.
Sponsorship and employer responsibilities
Hiring a foreign national on an employment visa in Uzbekistan requires adherence to specific eligibility criteria, submission of necessary documentation, and payment of applicable fees. Here's an overview:
