Work Visas and Immigration in Togo

Visas for foreign nationals

In Togo, hiring foreigners without valid work permits can result in fines, legal action, or visa cancellation. Strict monitoring is undertaken by the government to ensure jobs are first available to Togolese citizens unless specialized skills are required. Therefore, the country has limited skilled migration programs for foreigners, but there are provisions for highly skilled professionals in sectors like agriculture, education, and engineering.

These visas are available for foreign workers in Togo:

  • Work visa: Specifically designed for individuals who have secured employment within the country. Foreign workers, including experts, professionals, and skilled laborers, are entitled to apply for this visa.
  • Immigration visa: Intended for foreigners planning to live and work in Togo for the long term.

Foreigners may also apply for a short-term business visa, which is issued for short-term business visits, attending meetings, or exploring business opportunities in Togo. It does not permit full-time employment in a Togolese company.

Sponsorship and employer responsibilities

Hiring a foreign national on an employment visa in Togo requires adherence to specific eligibility criteria, submission of necessary documentation, and payment of applicable fees. Here's an overview:
