Work Visas and Immigration
Visas for foreign nationals
In Hungary, hiring foreigners without valid work permits can result in fines, legal action, or visa cancellation. Strict monitoring is undertaken by the Hungarian government to ensure jobs are first available to Hungarian citizens unless specialized skills are required. Therefore, Hungary has limited skilled migration programs for foreigners, but there are provisions for highly skilled professionals in sectors like IT, engineering, finance, and healthcare. Several visas are available for foreign workers.
- EU Blue Card: Available to highly skilled workers from EU countries
- Digital nomad visa (White Card): For high-earning remote workers
- Hungarian Card: Obtainable for workers in IT, engineering, and science
- Intra-Corporate Transfer (ICT): For workers being transferred within the same multinational organization
- Guest Worker Permit: A temporary visa for non-skilled workers for certain partner countries
Foreigners may also apply for a short-term business visa, which is issued for short-term business visits, attending meetings, or exploring business opportunities in Hungary. It does not permit full-time employment in a Hungarian company.

- Obtain approval from the Hungarian National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing, demonstrating the necessity of hiring a non-EU national.
