Work Visas and Immigration in Andorra

Visas for foreign nationals

In Andorra, hiring foreigners without valid work permits can result in fines, legal action, or visa cancellation. Strict monitoring is undertaken by the government to ensure jobs are first available to Andorran citizens unless specialized skills are required. Therefore, the country has limited skilled migration programs for foreigners, but there are provisions for highly skilled professionals in sectors like tourism, finance, and healthcare. Visas that these workers may apply for include:

  • Active residency permit: Allows the holder to reside in Andorra and be employed by an Andorran entity.
  • Seasonal work visa: For temporary employment in Andorra, such as in the tourism sector.

Foreigners may also apply for a short-term business visa, which is issued for short-term business visits, attending meetings, or exploring business opportunities in Andorra. It does not permit full-time employment in an Andorran company.

Sponsorship and employer responsibilities

Hiring a foreign national on an employment visa in Andorra requires adherence to specific eligibility criteria, submission of necessary documentation, and payment of applicable fees. Here’s an overview:

Eligibility criteria

  • Specialized skills: The foreign national should possess specialized skills or qualifications not readily available in Andorra.
  • Quota compliance: Employers must ensure that hiring the foreign national complies with Andorra’s annual immigration quotas.

Required documentation

  • Valid passport: An applicant’s passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended period of stay
  • Employment contract: A detailed contract specifying the terms of employment, including job role, salary, and duration
  • Company registration: Proof of the Andorran company’s registration
  • Educational qualifications: Copies of degrees or certificates relevant to the job position
  • Resume/CV: A comprehensive resume detailing the applicant’s professional experience
  • Visa application form: Completed and signed visa application form
  • Photographs: Recent passport-sized photographs meeting the specifications set by the Andorran consulate or embassy

Post-arrival requirements

  • Registration: Foreign nationals holding an employment visa must register with the Andorran immigration authorities within 30 days of arrival in Andorra.
  • Tax obligations: Ensure compliance with Andorran tax laws, including obtaining a tax identification number and fulfilling any tax liabilities.
